Processor
The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power–less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor–for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

Storage
This version of the Samsung NC10 comes with a 160 GB hard disk drive (5400 RPM), which offers enough to room to hold a an extra-large digital audio library of and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

Memory
The 1 GB of installed RAM can be expanded to a maximum of 2 GB of RAM,

Input
You won’t have to make compromises to stay productive with the NC10 netbook. The 93-percent full-size keyboard makes it easy to type no matter where you are. And it features an amazing Samsung innovation–Silver Nano Technology. By sprinkling incredibly small, nano-sized silver ion powder on the keyboard, it’s impossible for bacteria to live and breed, creating a more hygienic personal computing environment.

Screen, Video and Audio
The 10.2-inch screen has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600) and has a 220nit brightness rating. It also has an anti-glare finish for great viewing angles in all lighting conditions. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 945, which uses shared video memory with the main memory.

This notebook includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility, and it includes two stereo speakers (1.5 watts apiece for a total of 3 watts of power).

Connectivity
This Samsung NC10 notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN (Atheros) that’s compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks–great for surfing at home on the couch or connecting to the Internet at hotspots around town. The Bluetooth connectivity (version 2.0 + EDR) enables you to communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. It has a multi-in-one card reader that’s compatible with three different types of memory cards–Secure Digital (SD), Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC), and MultiMediaCard (MMC)–for maximum flexibility. Here’s the full list of ports and external connections:

3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals–from digital cameras to MP3 players

Multi-in-one card reader supports SD, SDHC, MMC

1 VGA monitor port

1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack

RJ-45 port for 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection

DVD/CD Drive
Because of its size, the Samsung NC10 does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports, enabling you to create your music mixes, burn movies to DVD, and more.

What’s in the Box
This package contains the Samsung NC10 netbook PC, rechargeable 6-cell lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. It is backed by a limited warranty for parts and labor for one year from date of purchase.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Netbook
I bought my NC10 about a month ago now. I have been very pleased with it so far. I did upgrade the memory from 1GB to 2GB – it’s a very cost-effective upgrade with memory as cheap as it is now. It performs well, you can even do some light gaming on it. I mostly use it to surf the web, email, hulu.com, etc.

If your in the market for a Netbook, you can’t go wrong with the Samsung. And in reality, I’d dare say it’s one of the best ones on the market.

5 Stars Slick “mini” computer
I bought the NC10 for my wife to use at her “desk”; i.e. the kitchen table. It is small, lightweight, and easy to store when not use.

The screen is bright (with several settings) and easy to see. I like the Windows XP operating system since it is what I have on my other computers. Ergonomics are great; particularly the keyboard. I suppose the touch pad is fine but I don’t like them and bought a Digitech wireless mouse. To soon to know which my wife will prefer.

For web browsing and email this little guy works just as well as its bigger brothers (desktops and laptops). As a matter of fact it will become our travel computer. If I had found this sooner I would not have bought a laptop. Instead of the bulk/weight of a laptop the NC10 can be carried in a briefcase. It has a media player and the “My Documents” (including My Pictures) standard on XP. The screen is too small for me to use on a daily basis but fine for short time when away from home. You can also set up seperate settings for two (or more) people. When the computer starts we can choose between my wife or me.

But it does lack features found on full size computers. The biggest omission is a CD/DVD player. But you can buy a Samsung external CD/DVD drive which plugs right in with a USB port; you don’t need a seperate power source since it draws from the NC10. It also does not come with Windows Office and other software. The speakers are pitiful; not a problem for us but needs to be pointed out here.

Do buy the 2 GB memory card; it speeds up performance and is inexpensive. Even with my limited computer skills I swaped the cards in 5 minutes. Do read the “how to” in the User Guide included on the NC10 before swapping.

Price shop the heck out of the NC10; look beyond Amazon. I found the best deal after “googling” it. Paid under four bills. I noted while looking on Amazon today that price seems to very with color.

All in all, I’m very impressed with the Samsung. It is perfect for my wife as well as for travel. If I get heartburn over something, I’ll report back.

4 Stars Really lovin’ my Samsung!!
As a nursing student, this netbook fit the bill! It’s light enough to fit into my purse or backpack. I get compliments on the pink color, but mostly I’m asked about its performance. While it is not a fast as my Mac, it is gets the job done. The keyboard is surprising comfortable. The only issue I don’t like is having to hit the function key for some letters on the keyboard. Anyone know how to change that function, no pun intended, PLEASE let me know.

5 Stars Samsung Netbook Shines!
I looked at a variety of netbooks and this one simply outshined them all. I have not been disappointed. It’s perfect for on the go and does everything it should. Samsung did an excellent job.

I upgraded to 2 gig of ram and the installation was simple.

Some advice from personal experience. I purchased a generic external USB Slim DVD CD R/RW Drives Burner Writer from ebay for $30 to watch DVD’s and play games. They are usually $40-$50 with shipping included (shipped from China) and downloaded the Intervideo XPACK after coupon for $12 and have had no problems. If the audio/video freezes plug in the power usb cord in addition to the usb cord for playing the device and this solves the problem. This download gives you the software and decoder allowing you to play your DVD with the Intervideo, Windows Media Player or Real Player.

ATT is the best wireless card reviewed by CNET. They did a wireless card showdown this week.

Oh, don’t forget to use both the Windows Update and Samsung Update Plus and download the updates on a regular basis. Very easy to use.

4 Stars cute! cute! and it works ok, too.
I’m far from a techie, so I really liked the cute pink color – even though my three year old son’s finger prints do tend to show.

This was my first netbook, so there were a few things that I don’t exactly care for, but I understand they’re what you get with a netbook. First, it was a little slow pulling webpages. We upgraded the memory, and that helped a lot. If you do this, be sure to check crucial’s website to make sure you’re getting the right one. Amazon recommended the wrong one to me. Second, the speakers are practically nonexistant. That’s not normally a problem for me, but be prepared. Finally, the screen is really tiny. Be sure you know exactly what 10.2 inches means. Again, all of these issues are with netbooks in general, not with my Samsung NC10. Overall, I think it’s a great (and cute!) little machine. The battery life is phenomenal.

5 Stars Very nice, best netbook I’ve bought
I just sold my HP mini 1000 on Craigslist. It was a nice netbook but short on battery life and storage space. I also have an original acer aspire one 8.9″ with extended battery. That laptop was nice but screen is a bit small but has a nice bright screen and a somewhat cramped keyboard. But ok battery life. I still have that one. I also have a MSI wind U120 which isn’t bad but battery life isn’t great but ok. And then I have an ASUS 900HA, that was pretty cheap at less than $300. Its very small but the keyboard on those Eee PCs aren’t very good (bad place for shift key) but the small size makes up for it as its smaller than the acer aspire one 8.9 inch but isn’t good for long sessions .

Now I just got this from amazon for $399 and its my very favorite. The quality of the Samsung N120 is outstanding. The computer is Matte finished so no more fingerprints. The glossy screen is very nice and bright. Battery life is the best of all four. The keyboard is perfect at 97% full size.

I want to sell my other ones except maybe the asus 900HA.

After using this for one week now I am really impressed with the speakers. When I compare them to the other 4 netbooks they blow them away. itunes sounds great and you can actually hear the stereo sound and the ‘subwoofer. I’m EXTREMELY happy with this purchase and can’t imagine a better netwook with a 10″ screen. Buy this and you will be extremely happy!

4 Stars Great cheap laptop — but non-square pixels
This is a great cheap laptop and I plan to use it as my main computer. The keyboard is great and the trackpad and buttons are acceptable. It makes a great word processor, Web browser, and player for DVD-quality videos.

Note that the screen is 8.78 inches wide and 4.94 inches tall (a 16:9 ratio) even though the pixels are 1024×600 (a 16:9.4 ratio). So the screen is 117 dpi horizontally and 121 dpi vertically — each pixel is stretched horizontally by four percent.

I didn’t notice this at first and it’s fine for browsing the Web, but if you’re playing back video, you’ll want to tell the video player that the monitor aspect ratio is 16:9, or everything will be just a little squished. That also goes for everything else you display.

4 Stars Samsung n120 a portable netbook for all
I wanted to get a netbook to have a computer that was portable. I do own a dell m4300, but it was heavy. Especially, when my family and I travel during the summer, I wanted something that I could listen to music and books and do e-mail on the go. I did a lot of research on netbooks.

This netbook stood out to me for a few reasons:

It’s keyboard. I have seen a few netbooks from other college friends and the keyboards did not amaze me. Samsung has outdone it on this product. The keyboard was very easy to type on. My only thing is I wonder why they only chose to include one windows key?

Anyone have anythoughts on that one?

Oh well, just one little odd design issue one can get used to.

Battery life was also great. I got between 6-8 hours on a charge.

From the first day I got it, everything just worked.

I was able to do skype with no problem.

People on skype say my internal microphone sounds quite good.

Listening to music and browsing the web was also a snap.

It found my wifi network right away-I was able to enter the wpa2 key and connect.

If you are looking for a computer with great audio battery life and a great keyboard then the n120 is the netbook for you.

5 Stars Best in Class
Samsung’s N120 is absolutely amazing and I’m very happy with the purchase. I did a lot of research over the past few months – and I’m not willing to settle for a netbook with less than six hours of video watching time or 10 hours of surfing/work time – I’d rather not have one honestly. The N120 delivers and more.

The keyboard is easy to use – much more comfortable than most for plane travel because of the unit’s overall small weight and footprint. In addition, the mouse trackpad works great – very impressive.

While the screen is reflective like all the new netbooks – and I did want a matte screen – like the other reviewers said, it’s about as non-reflective as a reflective screen can be – no complaints here.

Samsung took their immensely successful first generation NC10 – integrated the consumer feedback and delivered once again. The build quality and specs made this a no-brainer for me. I was leaning toward the HP and Lenovos but they haven’t been able to strike a balance between long battery life (all 6-cell netbooks are not created equal) and weight. Samsung did it with the NC10 and they’re doing it once again with this second generation: N110 and N120. If this second generation hadn’t just come out, I would have likely bought the NC10 if any.

Obviously, Samsung is reading the consumers better than the rest of the pack.

It even comes with its own neoprene-like (thick cloth) sleeve – which you’ll have to add your own velcro to. Why they chose to not put a velcro closure on it is a very good question.

Overall, I would buy this again – and will recommend to friends and clients.

5 Stars Amazing! And I have a question
I got this netbook because my 13″ Ibook died. I’m a mac-addict, and I wish Apple made a netbook. But, other than that, I love everything about the Samsung N120: The screen is amazing, the keyboard is more than generous and feels great, the size is perfect, it is easy to carry. [....]

My question is: Does anyone know what car charger would work with this? And is it okay to charge a computer when the car is running?
